Hello lovely! I’ve missed you. I'm so glad you're here with me today. Grab your notebook, a pen, your favorite cozy sip—and maybe even a little snack—and let’s dive in.

If you're here, chances are you’re feeling a little worn out. Maybe you’re tired of the constant upkeep, the daily routines, the meals, the laundry, and just keeping up with everything. Maybe you’ve been trying so hard to keep it all together—only to find yourself burnt out, worn thin, and discouraged.

You are not alone.

That’s why today’s blog post is all about encouragement for the weary homemaker. Below, I’m sharing five books that have helped me personally when I’ve hit those hard, “I don’t want to try anymore” seasons. Whether you choose to read them or listen to them as audiobooks, I pray that these words will speak to your heart like they have mine.

Book #1: The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi

Oh, I’ve talked about this one so much—and for good reason. This book changed everything for me when I was a new wife trying to figure out how to make a home. It’s warm, practical, and full of grace.

“Be a genius about what matters and lazy about what doesn’t.”

This book is built around 13 Lazy Genius principles like “Decide once,” “Ask the magic question,” and “Schedule rest.” If you're craving permission to slow down and create your home your way—not the world’s way—this one’s for you. It’s like a breath of fresh air.

Book #2: The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst

Are you drowning in an overwhelmed schedule and aching from an underwhelmed soul? Me too, friend. And this book helped so much.

Lysa teaches how to make wise decisions and protect your peace in the midst of demands and pressure. She writes about the importance of saying “no” when you need to—and how every “yes” shapes your schedule and your soul. A must-read for any woman who struggles with boundaries (ahem, me).

Book #3: Deeper by Dane C. Ortlund

This one’s a bit more theological and meaty, but so worth it. It’s a book that slows you down and brings your heart back to the feet of Jesus. It’s not about doing more for Him—it’s about resting in what He’s already done for you.

If you’re feeling spiritually empty, or if your soul is tired in a deep way, this book will gently point you back to truth.

Book #4: A Woman After God’s Own Heart by Elizabeth George

This was one of my mom’s favorite books when she was in a season similar to mine, and now I see why. It’s a timeless, beautiful reminder of who we are called to be in Christ—not according to the world’s standards, but according to His Word.

It’s especially meaningful for homemakers because it centers your heart on God rather than on the whirlwind of expectations, comparison, or worldly influence.

Book #5: A Guide to Mental and Emotional Wellness by Dr. Jennifer Londgren

I discovered this book after hearing Dr. Londgren speak at a women’s conference—and I was blown away. She combines clinical insight, biblical wisdom, and practical habits to help you feel whole and at peace again.

If you feel mentally fuzzy, emotionally worn out, or just plain overwhelmed, this book is a gentle hand on your shoulder saying, “You’re not crazy. You’re just tired. Let’s work through it together.”

I hope these books can be a comfort to you. Whether you order one or just keep this list tucked in your notebook for later, know this:

You are allowed to rest. You don’t need to earn grace.

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect to be lovely. You don’t have to keep trying just to prove something. And the best rhythms are the ones that feel like freedom, not pressure.

All of these books (except the last one) are available in audiobook format. And yes—if you’re an audiobook girlie who’s always losing her earbuds or dropping them in the laundry—same. But hey, it’s better than reading a book with the last page missing, right?

Let me know if you end up reading any of these. I’d love to hear what you think!

And finally, your silly little would-you-rather for the week: Would you rather listen to audiobooks forever but only through earbuds, or read physical books but always be missing the last page?

I’d go with the earbuds, but I want to hear your answer too! Drop a comment and let me know.

Until next time, remember: you are lovely, and so is your home—even when you’re tired of trying.

Love, Evelyn
